Revenge Is Sweet..As Shawdale Now Out Fox the Fox.
After a disappointing result in mid week, Shawdale put things right this morning in an epic team effort to secure the three points in this enthralling and at times bad tempered affair from the home side and their partisan crowd.
Every player gave their all, none more than Man of The Match Tommy The Rock Ireland. Who played in an unconventional roll, as goalkeeper. He was a colossus between the sticks, backed up by Allott, Temple,Ryan and Holmes who didn't put a foot wrong all game in defense.
All Fox seemed to have all game, was a school ground kick and chase approach.Hoofing the ball high in the air and hoping Shawdale made a mistake..but they didn't.
Morrow and Barnes caused difficulties all game out on the flanks as Holmes fed them with some superlative balls from all over the pitch.
As like Tuesday evenings encounter, the game started at a hundred miles an hour, both teams trying to outwit each other and get the upper hand.
Shawdale playing as a collective unit and the home side launching high deep balls in to the visitors box.
Chances were few and far between. With two long throw specialists on both teams, that became the threat in and around the penalty areas.
The home side had the first chance on fifteen minutes, but brought a great save from 'The Rock' who came off his line quickly and threw himself Schmeichel like between the ball and the net and saved magnificently.
Crothers was busy all morning, holding up playing and darting into space behind the home sides defensive back three.
On twenty five minutes, he made one of these darts, but was pulled back just outside the box. The resulting free kick saw the ball whistle passed the far post.
Stalemate at half time and you knew, whoever scored the first goal, would go on to win this game.
On sixty five minutes, Crothers was through on goal, only to watch agonizing his shot trickle wide.
Shawdale on top now, passing the ball around at will. Then on seventy minutes, cometh the hour cometh the man. From a Long Holmes throwing, Durrant rose like a wild salmon, he rose above the on coming keeper and with a slight glance of the head, directed the ball into the net to the upraw of the many away fans.
This made for a nail biting last twenty minutes but the visitors were never out of their comfort zone. The home side became anxious, as wild tackles started to fly in and obscenities being shouted from the home sides dugout.
This didn't deter the visitors, who kept cool heads until the final whistle.
Games like these win leagues, the passion, comradery and self brief.
Coach Wylie said after the game...I just need a beer..
