Business Resumes As Normal…As Shawdale Bang Seven Past Royton….

Shawdale produced a professional exhibition of football, to easily win this encounter on a muddy slippy pitch at Heyside Park this morning.

From the outset the home side took control and Royton were never really in the Tie. Only for their keeper, who produced some great saves to keep his side in the game ,up to half time.

Shawdale started brightly with Eastmond causing havoc on the left wing. As was Dawson on the right, with his tricky and flamboyance.

On 9mins, Shawdale were awarded a penalty, but as like last week, Durrant failed to capitalize and hit it straight at the keeper.

Any attacks Royton had were fluffed out by a wall of Allott, Lewis, M.O.M Temple and Trippier who all were sensational all morning. Lewis in particular, as he ventured forward on umpteen occasions and caused problems all morning.

The Rock also, caused problems, as he tore through the heart of the Royton midfield as a man on a mission.

The home side shortly took the lead, by that man Durrant, who made up from his earlier penalty miss, by hitting a ten-yard shot into the corner of the net.

There was wave after wave of attacks, only the visitor’s keeper keeping the home side at bay.

That was until Durrant struck again, as he coolly side footed a great ball from Eastmond past the keeper.

Totally in control now, spreading the ball all over the field. Only the slippery condition hindering them at times…

Next on the score sheet was Eastmond, as he flew down the wing like an express train, cutting inside, to hit a delightful strike, which left the visiting keeper routed to the spot.

3-0 at half time.

Playing down the hill in the second half, which at times resembled “Zulu Dawn,” attack after attack, shot after shot reigned in on the away sides goal.

Then from out of nothing, “The Rock” passed a forty yard inch perfect pass, for Holmes to run on to and slide past the keeper.

Wiggley in the Shawdale goals today, had a quiet morning as a spectator for much of the game.

Next a great reverse pass by Durrant who found “Twinkle Toes Baker, “to score his first every goal in Sunday League football after five years.

With six minutes remaining, “Super Sub Barnes,” scored a brace to the cheers of the watching supporters.

Wylie was delighted with his sides performance …but we may need to find a new penalty taker…
