‘Captain Jack Morrow’ Sinks Cartshafts Ship….
Shawdale brought in the Christmas cheer with a great performance against an excellent side in Cartshaft Fc.
Shawdale still licking their wombs after the first encounter, where they were convincingly beaten. But came out on top this time.
Not much to pick from both sides, but the second half, with Shawdale playing down the hill, gained the advantage in this enthralling fixture.
Both sides going at each other like hammer and nail, but Shawdale had the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ with Man Of The Match Jack Morrow who was on top form, who turned out to be the difference in the two sides, come the end of the match, with a brace of goals.
Also, new keeper Jordan Latham provided a new dimension to Shawdale’s game, with his long clearances and accurate distribution of the ball from hand.
Both teams came out of the blocks quickly, but two chances from Shawdale early on in the game by ‘The Rock’ missing with a glancing header and Durrant bringing a brilliant save by the visitor’s keeper. This laid down the chalice that they were not just here to make up the numbers.
It was back and forth all through the first period, only for some great defending by Tweedale on the flanks, keeping Cartshafts speedy number nine at bay.
Holmes ‘The General’ in midfield, seeming to have acres of time on the ball and his distribution was impeccable all game.
Every player gave their all, against this quick, robust Cartshaft side.
It was probably an even–stevens affair up until the fortieth minute, when a great run from a Cartshaft player, who crossed an inch perfect ball from the by-line to be met with a great header, that the home keeper had no chance to stop.
At times the referee was more interested in writing in his book, instead of letting the game flow. Then on sixty minutes, from a great tackle by a Cartshaft player, saw the ball spin loose, fifty yards out, Morrow first to react, charged down the touch line, cut inside and coolly slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper, to a great roar from the home supporters.
A minute later, Barnes who had just come on to the pitch, could of double the lead, but spooned his shot over the bar.
Dawson showed his usual trickery out wide, however, another reason for the visitors not scoring further, was due to the stubborn defending from Allott, Temple and Trippier, who fought for every ball on the ground and in the air.
Again on sixty-eight minutes, Morrow, causing all sorts of problems, was brought down in the box; he took the awarded penalty and blasted it home.
At 2-1, Cartshaft still kept on pressing, but harder they tried, balls were going astray.
On seventy eight minutes Matty Williams put an inch perfect pass through to the on charging Barnes, who took on the defence and came out on top, as he drove the ball home for a great Shawdale victory.
In injury time Williams could of made it four, only for him to shoot wide.
Wylie was proud of his team and thought it was a great game. Which he feels they just edged it in the second half, but taking nothing away from Cartshaft as they gave their all.
