A fifteen - goal - fest, that left Limeside in Free-fall….

Before I could get my pen and paper out, Shawdale opened the score, almost from kick off, as Dawson who again had a great game on the left flank, smashed the ball home from close range. After the first fifteen minute, when the home side couldn’t seem to get going, it became a goal festival, that the visitors had no answer too and I personally felt sorry for, as goal after goal hit the back of the net.

There were some great individual displays, Another 5 goals for Durrant, great attacking displays by Ireland, Barnes and Dawson, topped by some great individual goals.

Durrant’s first, saw him beat the off side trap, and coolly slot it home. Limeside were rewarded a penalty shortly after that made it 2-1 after thirteen minutes. Durrant’s second and third came consecutively, one being a penalty.

Not shortly after, Limeside pulled another goal back and got the fans wondering, was this going to be one of those major upsets???

Everyone’s fears were put to rest after fifteen minutes, when Shawdale went in to turbo mode and left the visitors with no answers what so ever.

It was brutal, heartless and at times stone hearted as they pulled Limeside apart.

Holmes was next to score with a sweet strike. On 62 minutes, Dawson added to his first with a lovely run and slotted the ball past the keeper.

The pocket rocket ship Barnes then hit a screamer that nearly broke the back of the net. Holmes hit his second, just before half time, for a 9-1 lead at the turn around.

There was a light side to the game as Wrigley, trying to reach to put the ball into the net, totally missed the ball and ended up tangled in the netting in the back of the net resembling a caught cod!!!

However, not to be outdone, that man made it ten, with a well executed strike.

By this time, I was feeling very sorry for the visitor’s keeper, but he took it in good spirit, cracking a joke, every time he picked the ball out of his net!!!

Barnes on the score sheet next, with an easy tap in.

The next four minutes saw four goals, Coach Wylie, Barns got his hat trick, The Rock Of Ireland got his well-deserved goal, and finished off deserving for Durrant for his fith of the morning. It wasn’t much of a contest at the end of the day, but the lads played as a unit all morning and will do them good as the season progresses.
