If the most expensive car in the world has eight gears, Shawdale had ten gears today……..
However, don’t be fooled, as the age old saying, you can only play against the opposition in front of you…
The game turned out to be as predicted, a one sided show and a convincing win for the home side.
The score line even flatters the visitors, as it could have been into the mid twenties. It was only the Bowers keeper who made some remarkable saves and the posts, that was hit four times that kept the score to a minimum. Plus the endless shots that went wide in a barrage, that at times looked like the assault on the Alamo, which flew in from a totally rampant Shawdale.
So from the off, Shawdale were in control, just after two minutes, the writing was on the wall, Dawson, who was impeccable all morning ran rampant on the wing played the ball to Durrant who curled a ball into the box, to find the ‘Rock of Irelands’ head but for him to see it skim the cross bar from a the keepers head, unfortunately was ruled offside.
But it was shortly after, from a free kick, just outside the area, saw Holmes hit a curling shot that left the keeper rooted, as he watched the ball hit the back of the net.
Then came the wave after wave of the home attacks, Firstly, a corner by Eastmond, that was precisely orchestrated to curl into the back of the net( which after the game he said he meant .. really????)
Danny Barnes, strong again on the right edge was a handful in the opening exchange and set up Durrant for his first of his four goals.
The forth came after good work on the flank by the impressive Dawson, who put a ball into the area, the keeper fumbled and Temple nodded it in.
The next came from a corner, for Barnes to drive the ball in from fifteen yards. 5-0 at half time and it was long before the robust Eastmond got his second after a determined run, found himself, with only the keeper to beat, and slotted it home.
He completed his hat trick shortly after, as a shot hit the keepers chest and he pounced, to tuck it away, for his first hat trick in his career.
More and more pressure was applied to the visitors, with Ellidge in the home goal, redundant, not touching the ball in the first sixty minutes.
It was a class show and at times, the visitors chasing shadows, not being able to cope with the speed of passing and over all supremacy of the home side.
Durrant completed his hat trick, as he was pulled down in the area, then converted his own penalty.
Shot after shot reigned down on the visitors goal and when the ball was fed through, a delicate chip over the keeper, saw Durrant score his forth.
The little dynamo in midfield, Foster was not going to be left out, as he coolly side footed a low drive into the net. On eighty minutes, the visitors did get on the score sheet, as they beat the offside and scored their well-deserved consolation goal.
Lewis Ryan concluded the scoring with a stunning finish, for a great day at the office for Shawdale.
