Shawdale Out Foxed By The Fox
Fox ended Shawdale’s unbeaten run tonight, to throw the league wide open again. Shawdale just didn’t create enough chances in the game, only two real attempts on goal, both through headers. They came up against a physical, well-drilled team, not the most skilful, but perhaps the team that wanted it more in the last quarter of the game.,. Saying that Shawdale had all the possession, but a well organised back three snuffed out anything the home side threw at them. Together with a little class act on the visitor’s wing, that who changed the game in the second half. He was probably the difference in the after match analysis. The game was played at a hundred miles an hour and by half time the visitors seemed to look tired.
Morrow ran his socks off and Holmes produced some brilliant long passes but the home side did not have anyone to put the ball in the net at the end of the evening.
On eight minutes, the visitors took the lead, as a ball into the box was coolly chipped over the keeper with an overhead flick.
Thereafter, Shawdale pressed and pressed, that came to nothing, the burly back three, headed, kicked their team out of trouble time after time.
On thirty-five minutes, Shawdale could have levelled it, as Barnes whipped in a corner, fell to Ireland, who headed over the bar. That was it really for the first period.
The second half started just like the end of the first, with Shawdale having all the possession with attack on attack, Still The Foxes defence held its banks.
On came the little whirlwind on the left wing, who started to terrorise the home sides defence, his speed, slight of foot was mesmerising.
On sixty-five minutes, a clever free kick by Holmes just out side the box saw Durrant with a free header, only to see it go wide of the post
On seventy-two minutes, they were punished for their missed opportunity. As along ball down field, fell to the feet of the little maestro, who checked inside and unleashes a great shot from twenty yards out, to break the home sides hearts.
The visitors put the game to bed on eighty minutes, as a ball was floated into the box and was headed home to the great delight of their travelling supporters.
Shawdale have to do it all again on Sunday, as they are the visitors against The Fox... The home side gave their all tonight, could not fault the commitment, but they are lacking creativity around the box and need to finish what ever chances that fall at their feet..
