Ridgehill Celtic FC 2 - 2 Shawdale (Pre Season Friendly)

A Cagey First Run Out Due To A 'Happy Whistle Blowing Ref…' But Holmes Bags A Brace'

Shawdale had their first run out of the season, in the build up to the new league campaign, commencing on 6th September.

With a few regular players missing, The visitors found it hard to get into their stride, especially in the first half.

Shawdale weren't allowed to player their usual free flowing football, due to a whistle happy referee who blew up on every opportunity.

This along with a lack of match practise, passes going astray and finding it hard to hit any rhythm.

At the change around the visitors were 2-0 down and could of been in for a long evening if they didn't up their game.

However, in the second period the tide changed and they started to string passes together and started to dominate possession.

This upset the home side, with a few rash challenges flying in, which resulted in one red card and a yellow.

On 70 mins Holmes received the ball just outside the box and with a precise lob over the keeper, he put his side back into the game.

Then 10 minutes from time, that man Holmes struck again, as a free kick was awarded just outside the box, which he struck as sweetly as hitting his hole in one last week on the 16th on Marland. To seal a 2-2 draw.

Coach Wylie commented after the match.. 'It was a rusty start, we had key players missing, the ref was a in love with his whistle , so on our first run out and playing away, I'll take a draw'
