Avenue Fc 5 - 1 Shawdale (Pre Season Friendly)

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

Shawdale were waltzed around the Avenue……

If there was a gap between the Rochdale Sunday League and the Oldham Sunday League, it was on view today.

Now, you can ask yourself, was it because on an artificial pitch, or was it because of the greater class between the two sides? What ever the conclusion was, the visitors were truly out beaten, in every department.

Avenue pressed high at every opportunity, every time Shawdale had the ball three Avenue players were around them, giving them no space, so making the visitors rush their passes, which ended with the home side gaining the possession time after time.

Avenue had eighty-five percent of the possession, with only Shawdale having two shots on goal and only venturing into the home sides half in possession on six occasions in the entire match.

With only five minutes gone, a long throw in looped into the box, the Shawdale defenders did react quick enough and the busy blonde haired number seven, tucked the ball into the corner of the net.

It was soon 1-1, against the run of play “Slimmer of The Year” Danny Barns received a great ball, brought it down with ease and bamboozled the defender to blast the ball home.

On 15 minutes, the home side produced a great flowing passage of play, resulting in the ball being squared across the penalty area, for their number 9 to direct the ball into the corner of the net.

Danny Barns did have a chance, straight after, but saw his shot dragged wide.

Time after time Shawdale gave the ball away, their energy levels were low and allowed the home side pass the ball around the pitch at will.

On 40 minutes a goal keeping error saw the home side go 3-1 up.

Then a free kick just outside the box, was hit and travelled like a bullet to almost break the back of the net, 4-1 at half time.

It was much of the same in the second half, Shawdale finding it hard to get into the home sides half.

The only shining light of the second half for the visitors was a penalty save by Wriggers.

Avenue rapped the game up on 80 minutes, to make it 5-1 and a well-deserved victory.

They go again on Tuesday evening as they travel to Woolworths FC, Wylie hopes they are not just window shopping on this occasion.
